I nearly forgot — the conclusion to my iMac repair saga from last week…
I called the Apple Store mid-week to inquire on the status of my repair request. I must have gotten hooked up with the surliest Apple Store employee I’ve ever spoken to, which in the grand scheme of things was pretty damn mild. She told me that the needed part was in but she didn’t have a timeframe for completion and that “a ton” of other computers were in front of mine in the queue. As annoying as the call was, I could just tell by the tone of her voice and the bustle in the background that they were pretty busy. I gave them a pass…this time.
Before leaving work on Friday, I called again and this time got the happiest employee I’ve ever spoken to — computer was ready, come on down. Sweet! $176 for a new power supply and I was gone.
The iMac has been purring since. The repair took care of my Bluetooth issues as well, which had conked out a few weeks before I started experiencing the random shutdown issue and had made mass phone photo transfers a pain in the ass. I guess that’s a good canary in the coal mine for these types of things.
I’m still considering a new setup. Tax-free holiday in Missouri this year is the weekend of August 1-3. Probably won’t do anything before then…except fantasize about a new rig.
