The whole thing feels like a bit of bolt-on to Facebook which, of course, it is. I think they just have to catch up with these people. And the process for a group creating a fan page is not as intuitive as it should be. In the meantime you're right, no one should "befriend" a company. That's what fans are for (with appropriate credit to Ms. Warwick).
