My Next Bold Move
The Missouri Sales Tax Holiday is this weekend. Couple that with Apple’s educator discount and free iPod offer – both of which the missus qualifies for — and I think we’re getting a good deal on a black Macbook. Additional memory will be a must. I’ll root around eBay for a second monitor, keyboard, mouse and maybe a snazzy laptop stand (though I suspect it may spend a lot of time empty). The aforementioned iPod offer will bring the missus a new iPod nano that will be free after a mail-in rebate. I’ll go ahead and grab an HP C4480 while I’m shopping, do the rebate, and then eBay it to turn a little extra cash, along with missus’ old iPod mini (a sentimental blue with the Joni Mitchell quote “Songs are like tattoos” engraved on the back) and the iMacDeskLamp.
Even after reading some rumors about the next generation of MacBooks due to come out in late September, I think this is a solid plan. It will be a nice update and upgrade of my current arrangement that, aside from the recent power supply repair, has been a workhorse and should serve the missus well.

Get the white version, save yourself two hundred, and get an external hard drive with the savings. You’re basically paying 200 more for the color and a little big larger HDD.
Get the black version if it makes you happy.
It is much easier to keep clean than the white one. While I love my white MacBook the palm rests tend to get grey over time from my hands resting on them. It is worth the 200 to have a nice clean looking laptop IMHO.
I will cede that point – the one at my home does tend to show the palm-rests easily.
I’m starting Year 3 with my BlackMac and love it. It’s been a workhorse.
@Genius/@Sally: I think my fascination with black Macs goes back to when my dad and I took our original 512k Mac apart and spraypainted it black, calling it the “stealth mac.” Good times…good times.
@Pointer: Good to hear. I’m giddy with the thought of having my own laptop. While the work PC laptops I’ve had over the past 4 or 5 years have been ok, this will be suh-weet.
@ JAK So can you use your new Black Beauty in place of your work machine? That would be supremely cool!
