Established in June of 2005, Patchchord.com aimed to be the online resource for the local music scene in the Kansas City area. From its comprehensive listing of upcoming shows and concerts by local and national artists and regular local artist spotlights with MP3 downloads to its podcast series and ongoing commentary on the local scene, Patchchord.com was a site intended for fans and musicians alike.

In August of 2007, the love, care and attention required to maintain the site exceeded the time I could devote to it.  However, I like to think that at the time it was created, it illustrated the need for local news outlets to reconsider the local Kansas City music scene and how it was being covered.  Since then, it’s nice to note that both the Pitch and the Star have gotten better in their coverage of all things local while digital publications like Present Magazine have also established themselves among these entities as purveyors of the good word about the quality and diversity of Kansas City music.

And Patchchord?  Speaking not only for myself but also the intrepid crew that contributed their thoughts and words over those 24 months, I’d like to think that we created enough of a ripple in the pond that made people take note of what this new medium could mean to our little corner of the musical universe.
